PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Managing Director is the key management leader of IBASA. Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

To direct and control IBASA operations and to ensure that the Institute achieves its vision, mission and strategic objectives.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES | TASKS
 
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
 
  • Prepare an annual business plan and monitor progress against the plan to ensure that the Institute attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Provide leadership and input for strategic and annual planning processes.
  • Provide thoughtful and visionary executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to the board chair and members of the board, to keep them aware of developments within the industry.
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual report and accounts of the Institute and ensure their approval by the board.
  • Present strategic options and plans for organization impact and gain Board approval as needed to carry out the work of the mission of the organization.
  • Identify revenue-generating activities that are in line with IBASA’s strategy.
  • Ensure holistic and standardised bottom-up measurement of progress towards strategic imperatives – communicate results to all employees.

Identify opportunities for growth and provide overall frameworks for development and continuous improvement.

 
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
 
  • Develop, establish and direct the execution of operating policies
  • Develop and formalise operating systems and standard operating procedures
  • Develop and review operational plan and budget.
  • Ensure that all business plans are integrated and supportive of strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations
  • Align strategic and business plans to overall financial plan
  • Ensure the recruitment of appropriately skilled staff to positions, and establishing appropriate remuneration levels.
  • Ensure organisational capacity and employee development.
  • Ensure that a sound measurement framework is in place to guide employees towards achieving the right results in line with organisation imperatives.
  • Monitor performance of IBASA to identify areas of weakness and provide solutions.
  • Ensure the timely consolidation and delivery of reports to applicable stakeholders.
 
GOVERNANCE AND COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT
  • Ensure that the appropriate policies are developed to meet the Institute’s mission and objectives and to comply with all relevant statutory and other regulations.
  • Attend all Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organisational progress.
  • Gracefully manage the board as needed to build consensus, remind of outstanding deliverables, and offer support.
  • Implement Board policies and procedures and build support for Board decisions amongst staff.
  • Work closely and openly with the Board and its committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues, as well as successes
  • Understanding of relevant legislation impacting on IBASA
  • Understand national and international standards, legislation, regulations, etc relating to governance processes that impact IBASA
  • Ensure that the organisation is regularly audited for compliance against defined standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate compliance and organisational performance quarterly and annually.
 

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Prepare, gain acceptance, and monitor the implementation of the annual budget to ensure that budget targets are met, that revenue flows are maximised.
  • Presentation to IBASA Board of overall annual budget and business plan for approval.
  • Ensure the monitoring and controlling of expenditures of the Institute in line with the budget.
  • Ensure proper financial controls regarding all operational budgets.
  • Drive the effective management and monitoring of financial resources and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure the effective management and monitoring of the Institute’s cash balances and forecasts.
  • Ensure the compilation and submission of accurate financial data in accordance with prescribed guidelines, standards and formats.
  • Ensure the effective management of the acquisition of assets and resource requirements.
  • Prudently direct resources and manage all financials within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for the fiscal integrity of the organization
  • Monitor board-approved budget and manage daily financial operations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the organization
  • Ensure maximum resource utilization, budget management, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
  • Build and administer the annual budget, with Board approval.
 

EXTERNAL RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS

 

 

 

  • Represent the organization and serve as chief spokesperson publicly at events, conferences, and partnership meetings.
  • Present and promote the organization and its mission, programs, partners, and members in a consistently positive manner.
  • Ensure high visibility to prospects and the public, and build interest in engaged philanthropy.
  • Manage all aspects of the organization’s marketing and public relations.
 

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS

 

  • Identify, interpret and map strategic stakeholder requirements.
  • Identify possible National and International stakeholders and partners, synergistic to IBASA, to support the execution of the strategic priorities.
  • Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with professional associations, relevant government departments and agencies, local authorities, key decision-makers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent IBASA to stakeholders, associates, partners, and suppliers.
  • Identify networking opportunities with groups and individuals within the Institute’s sector.
  • Effectively support strategic partners and stakeholders through sharing of resources, professional expertise, and other requirements.
  • Critically evaluate the stakeholder network to ensure effective partnerships and networking opportunities.
  • Provide advocacy to stakeholders on policy interpretations and drive the awareness of policy changes.
  • Develop and maintain an effective marketing and public relations strategy to promote IBASA’s products, services and image in the sector.

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Leading project planning.
  • Manage and oversee project progress and adapt work as required.
  • Ensure projects meet deadlines.
  • Designing and signing off on project contracts.
  • Monitor project performance and progress.
  • Conduct project review and create detailed reports for the Board or Board Committees.
  • Identify and track project risks, mitigate and/or resolve project risks.
  • Oversee preparation and updating of project administration documents; timelines, meeting notes, external contractor briefs, status reports, financial reports etc.
  • Identify and secure growth opportunities and initiate new projects.
 

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

  • Drive the determination of staffing requirements, and ensure recruitment and retention of high performing individuals
  • Drive the management of human capital assets and ensure maximum performance, capacity, capability and well-being
  • Ensure the provision of required training and development to employees to ensure optimal performance
  • Ensure that training interventions are aligned with the Institute’s and employees’ needs.
  • Drive the implementation of an effective performance management system and ensure the management of employee performance against agreed standards and objectives.
  • Provide overall leadership and support the Institute’s employees by keeping them informed and engaged, providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching and guidance.
